STUART, Fla. — The Stuart Police Department assisted in the emergency relocation of residents from an assisted living facility Saturday night after critical air conditioning system failures compromised their safety.

Residents at the facility on SE Central Parkway were temporarily evacuated due to mechanical malfunctions in the building's cooling system. With Florida's warm climate posing significant health risks to elderly residents without adequate climate control, authorities determined immediate action was necessary.

"For the health, safety, and comfort of the residents, the decision was made to relocate them until the issue is resolved," the Stuart Police Department stated.

The temporary relocation ensures vulnerable residents remain in climate-controlled environments while facility management works to repair the air conditioning system. No timeline has been announced for when residents will be able to return to their homes.

The incident highlights the critical importance of maintaining essential building systems in facilities serving elderly and vulnerable populations, particularly in Florida's subtropical climate where temperatures can pose serious health risks.
