"Sense & Sensibility" REVIEW
With the sudden loss of their father and the only male presence in the family, the Dashwood sisters are left with the most unlikeliest choice, to marry off one by one in order to preserve the livelihood of their family. During one magical summer, both Marianne and Elinor manage to both fall for two dashing young men, Edward and Willoughby, but when the summer is over, both men are destined for London, leaving the sisters in mourning for their true loves. What are they to do now, but set off on a trip to follow their hearts only to have them shattered by sudden engagements. Are those engagements set in stone or are they willing to fight for the men they love.
Based on the novel by Jane Austen and set in traditional English time period, Sense and Sensibility will have audiences engulfed in the time period as the landscape, dialogue and acting holds true to that point in time. Additionally the film stars Daisy Edgar- Jones and Esme Creed Miles as the two Dashwood sister who truly embrace the love and heartbreak, while trying to support their sister in their own situation, they really embrace what it means to be a sister in love. Additionally, Fiona Shaw, as Mrs. Jennings, the "matchmaker" does an equally exceptional job of stepping into that fun witty role that the time period was known for especially for women who needed a certain status to maintain their familyhood.
In a sense, it was a question of love or sense of duty which women ultimately got stuck into maintaining and all the women in the cast do an exceptional job of upholding that.
Furthermore, the men who stood out in the cast include, Turlough Convery as Sir John Middleton, Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, George MacKay as Edward and Frank Dillane as Willoughby.
Sense and Sensibility came out in theaters October 15th and is currently playing in a theater near you.
