Miami World Center: Downtown's Transformative $4 Billion Development Continues to Reshape City Skyline
MIAMI — The Miami World Center, one of the largest urban development projects in the United States, continues to transform downtown Miami's landscape with a multi-billion dollar vision that has been years in the making.
A Decade in Development

The ambitious project was first announced in 2012 by developers Miami Worldcenter Associates, a partnership that includes Forbes Global Properties, Miami Worldcenter Developers, and other investment groups. Spanning approximately 27 acres in the heart of downtown Miami, bounded by Northeast 6th Street, Northeast 2nd Avenue, and Biscayne Boulevard, the master-planned community was conceived as a mixed-use destination combining residential, retail, hospitality, and entertainment components.
The development's initial groundbreaking took place in 2014, marking the beginning of what would become a $4 billion transformation of a previously underutilized section of downtown Miami.
Current Status
Several major components of Miami World Center have already come to fruition. The centerpiece Caoba Miami Worldcenter, a luxury residential tower designed by Arquitectonica, opened its doors with 444 residences offering panoramic views of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The building features resort-style amenities including a rooftop pool deck, fitness center, and co-working spaces.
Paramount Miami Worldcenter, the development's flagship residential tower standing at 60 stories, has become an iconic addition to Miami's skyline. The building houses over 500 luxury condominiums and boasts amenities including a soccer field, tennis courts, basketball court, and multiple pools.
The retail and entertainment district has also taken shape. Miami Worldcenter's street-level activation includes numerous dining and shopping options that have breathed new life into the neighborhood.
Retail and Dining Landscape
Among the businesses that have opened their doors are a mix of local favorites and national brands. The development has attracted restaurants ranging from casual eateries to upscale dining establishments, contributing to downtown Miami's growing reputation as a culinary destination.
Retail tenants have begun filling the ground-floor spaces, offering residents and visitors convenient access to shopping, services, and entertainment options within walking distance.
On the Horizon
The development pipeline remains robust. Plans include additional residential towers, expanded retail spaces, and enhanced public areas designed to create a walkable, pedestrian-friendly urban environment.
A key component still in development is the Miami World Center Mall, which is expected to add significant retail square footage to the project. The mall is anticipated to feature a diverse mix of retailers, dining options, and entertainment venues.
Hotel developments are also planned as part of the broader vision, aiming to accommodate the growing number of tourists and business travelers visiting Miami.
Infrastructure improvements continue throughout the site, including enhanced streetscapes, public plazas, and pedestrian pathways designed to connect the development seamlessly with surrounding downtown neighborhoods.
Economic Impact
Miami World Center has already created thousands of construction jobs and is expected to generate significant ongoing employment opportunities through retail, hospitality, and service positions. The development is projected to contribute substantially to Miami-Dade County's tax base while serving as a catalyst for additional investment in the downtown area.
As Miami World Center continues to evolve, it represents a bold reimagining of urban development in South Florida—one that aims to create a vibrant, 24/7 live-work-play destination in the heart of one of America's most dynamic cities.
